Understanding the Law of Attraction
The subject of the Law of Attraction has gained widespread attention and discussion after Rhonda Byrne's book *The Secret* was released. Since then, it has become a cultural phenomenon and is seen by many as the foundation of spiritual practice. But is the Law of Attraction as simple as many claim it is on social media? In this article, I will break down this very complex topic, helping you to walk away with a clear and empowered understanding.
The basic principle of the Law of Attraction is: like attracts like. Your thoughts and feelings, along with their associated resonant vibrations, are energies you send out into the universe. Through our personal vibration, we are constantly attracting thoughts, feelings, people, places, things, and experiences by matching resonant frequencies that align with the vibration we emit. This phenomenon is called manifesting.
So, is manifesting through the Law of Attraction real? Absolutely! But it requires more than just writing your wishes on a sticky note and placing it under your pillow. Simply thinking something into existence isn’t enough — we are dynamic, energetic, and vibrational beings. And believe it or not, science supports this!
The heart generates a powerful electromagnetic field. This field, produced by the electrical activity of the heart's muscle cells, is not only the most powerful rhythmic field in the body but also plays an important role in communication and health. It radiates outward and can be detected several feet from the body, affecting not only our internal systems but also interacting with the outside environment and other people.
When we achieve a state of synchronization and harmony among the heart, mind, and emotions, our heart's electromagnetic field is in heart coherence. In this high vibrational state, we experience positive emotions such as appreciation, care, and compassion. When you radiate love, your thoughts and feelings will align with what is truly right for you, making your desires more likely to manifest.
Many people say, “If my dog doesn’t like you, I don’t either.” Why might that be? Our animals are talented at reading energy, and if there is a lower frequency or vibration, your dog might not feel comfortable and could signal to you that something is wrong. You do this, too. Have you ever met someone who looks okay on the outside, but you just sense that something else is going on behind their smile? You’re picking up on their vibrational frequency. The same goes for someone emitting a positive vibration! Your reaction to them, regardless of their appearance, will be one of playfulness, relaxation, or comfort.
Your body emits both high and low vibrations, and the electromagnetic field we produce is very real. Knowing this, let’s explore how to use the Law of Attraction to manifest.
Like Attracts Like: Understand that positive thoughts and positive feelings are believed to attract positive experiences, while negative thoughts and emotions can draw negative outcomes. Look inward and ask yourself what vibration are you sending out?
Focus and Attention: Whatever you focus your attention on—be it consciously or subconsciously—grows stronger and more present. Focusing on what you want, rather than what you fear or lack, can bring desired outcomes into reality.
Belief: Belief is a powerful force. Holding a strong conviction that something will happen is thought to align you with the energy of the universe, paving the way for manifestations to occur. Many successful people didn’t necessarily have the strongest training or skills, but what they did have was an unwavering belief in themselves and faith in the universe, Divine, or God.
Action: As tempting as it is to think you can sit back and simply will something into existence, it’s not realistic. You need to take action on what you think, feel, and believe. When you are in a state of heart coherence, the ideas and instincts you have to act on are often exactly what you need to make your manifestation come true.
More than thirty years ago, I was searching for a better job when I came across a position advertised on a company’s job board. I didn’t have all of the experience they required, but I had the educational background and desire, so I applied. I was called in for an interview, and at the end of it, I was given a psychological test. They said it was standard practice and necessary to move to the next round. I remember thinking it was a piece of cake. It had around twenty questions and was based on reflecting on how others saw me, not how I saw myself. A couple of days later, I received a call that I wouldn’t be progressing to the next round. I asked why and what their decision was based on. They said the results showed that I am stronger than I believe I am. I’ve never forgotten that. I loved that potential job, I could feel myself working there, and took action by applying and interviewing—yet I was missing the belief in myself. That is how powerful belief is.
The Law of Attraction takes practice. It’s only by taking action that you will have things mirrored back to you. Taking these practical steps can help you hone in on manifesting:
Clarify your goals and intentions. Be very specific about what you want to attract into your life.
Practice visualization daily. Imagine and feel the experience of your desired outcome with as much sensory detail as possible.
Keep a gratitude journal to focus on what’s going well in your life and on abundance rather than lack.
Take action. Pairing intention with action is essential. When you feel a nudge to take inspired action from a heart coherence state, take the next step!
Be open to opportunities and remain flexible. Sometimes what arrives may not look exactly as expected, but it is precisely what we need.
Start small with something you want to manifest. You’re not going to go from couch potato to marathon runner overnight. Learn how to align your thoughts, beliefs, and intentions with your heart. Manifesting with positivity, gratitude, and conscious intention, when balanced with realistic expectations, fosters a greater sense of empowerment and hope. The intrinsic value of the Law of Attraction lies in the ways it encourages you to dream boldly, act purposefully, and approach life with an open heart and mind.
